After making it through the last 12 months Phil Harley has now gone bust.
The plumber has folded his residential handyman style business today after a tough few months.
“Yeah it’s back to the old boss and the same old wisecracks every day,” sighed Phil.
Speaking to The Advocate this morning, Phil explained that he can pin point exactly where the business went wrong.
Fridge magnets.
“It was a pretty rookie error in hindsight,” explained the man relying on word of mouth and some social media marketing.
“Got the cards and everything done up, but I completely forgot the staple of any local plumber looking for maintenance work.”
“The fridge magnets.”
“Having a fridge magnet of a dripping tap with a 24-hour call-out promise is marketing 101 for the maintenance plumbing industry.”
“I should have known better.”
“And I don’t have time to wait for them to get made up and posted out, so I’ll go back to working for the old boss and maybe have another crack at it down the track.”
“The mortgage and new boat won’t pay for itself,” explained the man who had been living on a comfortable tradies salary before trying to go out on his own.
“Ah well, you get that on the big jobs aye.”
“Lives and learns,” he sighed.
