The brain can be a bit of an asshole sometimes.

The times it conjures anxiety over nothing, leaving you questioning if it’s a gut feeling or just your mind being dramatic again.

The intrusive thoughts that casually urge you to stick your fork into the toaster or throw yourself onto the train tracks.

The odd occasion it becomes fixated on looping just one line from a song over and over again.

But none are so deeply unnerving than its ability to replay painful memories in excruciating detail.

At least with physical pain, memories can serve as a cautious reminder on what to avoid in the future. Even emotionally painful memories, such as a toxic relationship, can provide some much-needed self-reflection.

But local woman Julie Parker isn’t exactly sure what purpose her embarrassing memories serve her. Or why her brain insists on reliving them at 2 am in the morning, the night before she starts her first day at work.

The latest memory her brain seems to enjoy relaying in excruciating detail centres on an incident several years ago involving regurgitated Sambuca, a nipple slip, and a C-list Australian celebrity.

The man, who for legal reasons cannot be named, is said to be an actor who’d gotten his first acting stint after coming fourth in an Australian reality TV show.

As Julie attempts to fall asleep in an effort to shrug off the deep pangs of embarrassment, her mind wonders where that purple shirt she used to wear could have possibly gone as she hasn’t seen it in a while.

More to come.
