Though he won’t be able to wander off to do the macarena on his local pub’s dancefloor afterwards, a local business owner said he’s planning to visit the schooner shop this afternoon as the government relaxes coronavirus restrictions from today.

Up to 20 people will be able to dine a pub restaurant here in our far south-west corner of Queensland while people in the city are only allowed half that number.

That has Damien Coleman, owner of Coleman Pogosticks on Fraserlock Road in the Old City, very excited.

While the main bar isn’t open yet, the prospect of ordering a single-origin lager and a packet of hand-cut salt & vinegar chips has him counting the minutes down to knock off.

“Oh man,” he said.

“Can’t wait for dinner tonight. I’m going to be full as Clive Palmer’s lower colon the day after a visit to Sizzler. I’m going to eat lots of chips and try all the different blends of lager they have down at the Bush Oyster Inn tonight,”

“Especially one of those craft dessert beers from over the border in South Australia. Capers? Coopers? Who knows! I’ve heard they’re brilliant but all their cash goes to the Bible Society, which is disappointing,”

“Might let my hair down and have a glass of red?”

“You know what they say about the Bush Oyster! The world is your oyster when you’re in the Bush Oyster!”

Our reporter silently nodded and pursed their lips.

“True,” they said.

More to come.
