As the annual debate around January 26 swirled over the weekend, comments made by an aging relic from the golden age of television have grabbed headlines around the nation.
Despite being an absurdly wealthy, privileged Baby Boomer, the nation was surprised and shocked to learn that Kerri-Anne Kennerley was capable of making incredibly racist comments regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
When somebody says something racist and ignorant on television, more often that not, it comes from the lips of somebody who’s set themselves up as a trust so they pay less tax and know how to use and abuse franking credits and reverse gearing.
The Macquarie Dictionary defines these people as ‘boomer fucks’.
Locally, a Betoota Grove mother-of-four took to social media today to express her disappointment with her television darling – sharing to the Betoota Buy Swap Sell Facebook page a seething status about Kerri-Anne and adoration for fellow
“It’s not a good look, KAK,” Melody Pearson, a 34-year-old Aquarius and Jones Avenue resident said.
“I’m in shock. It might be time to put a transfer into Sky News or something. Running a nice, conservative brunch show sprinkled with that charming Rodney Rude style racism,”
“It’s such a shock. Good on Yumi [Stynes] for putting her to the sword. I think even Kerry Packer would be disappointed in her!”
Mrs Pearson’s sentiments were similar to those across social media this weekend, from the vapid and narcissistic echo chambers of Australian Twitter, to the hellish depths of old people Facebook.
The Advocate reached out to a number of other locals – and people around the country who expressed shock at KAK’s comments, but none were willing to go on the record.
