The nation’s punters have expressed shock this week after one of horse racing’s most colourful personalities might be crooked.
As news broke surrounding Darren Weir potentially getting up to no good began to spread around the country, major newspapers stopped the presses and television news stations took a broke into regular programming to break the story.
“Newsflash!” said ABC News24.
“Newflash! Holy fuck! This has never happened before,” said some lifeless youth-orientated online news website.
“Fake News! Plus Malcolm Turnbull is a homosexual!” wrote the Daily Telegraph.
Aside from those bookends of journalistic integrity, the punters themselves were the most let down by Mr Weir’s alleged wrongdoing.
Speaking exclusively to The Advocate via payphone, a popular local punter said he was ‘gutted’ and ‘feeling let down’ by Darren Weir and hopes this is just an isolated incident.
“Who would jigga a defenceless horse?” he said.
“Who would tell a mate that their horse is a shoo-in to win some wookatook country race meet at absurd odds? Who would do that?”
“I refuse to believe that Darren could be behind this. But then again, I can.”
