Rugby League fans across the country are still in a state of confusion today, about where the St George Dragons actually hail from.
This comes after the Red V put the nail in Wayne Bennett’s contract negotiations, with a 48-18 thumping off the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium yesterday.
The drubbing had many outside of the Southern Suburbs of Sydney and Wollongong wondering where is St George is, considering it’s not in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, or the Eastern suburbs… Or the Southern suburbs.
And it’s definitely not in the Northern Suburbs. In fact, the only recognisebale thing about the St George Dragons, is the ‘Illawarra’ part of the merger, with many of the club’s so-called fans simply following them because their parents did when they won 11 premierships back in the olden days.
Broncos fans appear to be particularly bemused by the name, with many confused as to why a small regional town in Southern Queensland had a rugby league team.
Darren Lewis, a distraught Broncos fan from Beenleigh, spoke to our reporters after the game about his confusion.
Overcome by a disappointment and emotion, Lewis hit out at the small basin of St George.
“How the fuck do they get a team? Like surely you’d give it Roma or Mackay or something?” he asked angrily.
“They have like 2,000 people in St George, which does make you wonder how they beat us today. Didn’t look like Wayne’s Broncos at all.”
“They don’t even have a Mcdonalds,” he said shaking his head.
Our reporters received similar responses from many other supporters leaving the stadium, with no one able to demonstrate that they knew where St George actually was, unless we were talking about the St George out near Roma.
More to come.
