NSW Police have today announced there will be up to 2000 more officers patrollng the streets of Kings Cross, Surry Hills and Balmain, after over 10,000 complaints from nearby property investors about the amount of noise coming from the 200 separate farmer’s markets within inner-city Sydney.

“Enough is enough” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

“First it was the young people having fun on the streets at night making a racquet”

“We listened. We shut down the city’s entire nightlife. Now its the 40-50-year-old mums with their massive bunches of flowers and Mexican breakfasts”

New laws set to passed by NSW parliament this week would stipulate that if independent farmer’s market stall operators cannot control the noise of people excited about buying their produce – they could be putting themselves and their staff at risk of being fined tens of thousands of dollars.

“What we are doing is bringing back a bit of accountability to our streets” said Berejiklian.

One local retiree, who recently decided to move to the inner-city so she could be within walking distance of her favourite art galleries, says this is a great initiative to bring peace to ‘her area’.

“This is not Bangkok. This is Sydney” she said.

“We don’t need this riff raff, with people from who-knows-what-country walking around talking to each other and making noise”

Sydney City Council has remained indifferent on the issue.
