A Tibooburra man says he’s effectively being forced to choose between quite obvious corruption and fairly blatant racism this election – and he’s unsure which of them is the lesser evil.
Dale Peen, a 54-year-old semi-retired Toyota mechanic, spoke briefly to The Advocate via telephone this afternoon where he expressed his disappointment with the political destiny of his state.
“You’ve got the Liberals and the Nationals taking money from developers, the mining sector and overseas,” he said.
“And then on the other side, you’ve got the Greens infighting and wasting oxygen and the Labor Party supporting an overtly racist candidate. Michael Daley doesn’t like educated Asian people moving into the suburbs and taking jobs,”
“The Nationals don’t care about farmers or the environment, they care about themselves and the mining sector,”
“And the Liberals are giving all these giant infrastructure projects to large overseas conglomerates because they undercut the local mob,”
“Fuck me, I think it’s time we either abolish state government or wheel out the guillotine.”
However, when asked who he planned to support this weekend at the New South Boomerstan State Election, Peen said he was still on the fence.
He says that because he lives in a regional area, he feels compelled to vote for the Nationals despite them not giving two fucks about him.
“Probably to shooters and fishers,” he said.
“The river is dry so there’s no fishing. I like shooting feral donkeys, brumbies and camels. Not many pigs about. I like farmers, too. Even though they complain all the time. Like, I get it mate. It hasn’t rained in ages, blah blah blah. Oh no! This lamb died before it made it to the slaughterhouse! Oh no!”
“But honestly, I might just donkey vote and call it a day.”
