In Betoota’s French Quarter, second hand store Red Hearts has gone the extra mile to immerse shoppers.
Wanting to give shoppers a taste of how wearing their second hand boots would look, Red Hearts employees stuck a couple of shortened pool noodles into their range of high leather boots.
While it is widely acknowledged that your legs only ever resemble pool noodles when you are properly munted, pool noodles in boots is just one small trick op-shops use to get you buying, akin to the millions Woolworths and Coles spend on store design each year.
According to Red Hearts volunteer Joy Reyes (54), she decided to put pool noodles into the stores’ boots so that customers could see how they look when filled out by a pair of thick, hairless legs with a curved uniform surface.
“People love to see the extra realism,” stated Reyes as she placed a couple of rings on a baby carrot.
“We had one girl come in who actually had pool noodles for legs and she felt very included.”
The sales speak for themselves with Reyes claiming she has sold nearly every pair of noodled boots she has put on display as well as selling a couple of pool noodles to kids who wanted to make a sword.
