As the nation struggles to grapple with the complexity of a public holiday in-lieu, Pauline Hanson appears to have completely misunderstood what is happening this weekend.
Fronting the media this morning, the One Nation leader has accused Scott Morrison and the Gregorian calendar of giving into left-wing pressure by moving Australia Day to the 28th of January.
With the controversial public holiday, that has only been acknowledged as a nationwide celebration since the late 1980s, falling on a Saturday this year, governments have instead opted for a long weekend by moving the public holiday to the monday after.
“This is political correctness gone mad” spat a furious Pauline Hanson during a press conference only attended by Channel 7, 9 and 2GB, who had only sent reporters in a hope that the Senator would say something racist.
“Why should everyday Australians have to change our way of life simply because Aboriginal people can’t get over the fact that their entire community has been ravaged with illness and trauma since that day”
