In a blow for Sydney’s Inner West, calls have been made this week to move the Sydney arm of Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s from it’s current Ultimo location.

The convenient location for the city’s public service employees has long been one of the most attractive features of working for the public broadcaster, along with generous salary, secure employment and pleasant working conditions.

So, as can be imagined, the calls to move ‘The Aunty’ from it’s sacred Ultimo headquarters out to the unwashed West of Sydney, has been met with outrage in the terrace houses across Sydney’s formerly rough Balmain belt.

“If the ABC were moved out to some shit hole like Parramatta or Liverpool, the 3 bedroom terrace house and boutique cafe market would be brought to its knees,” said an angry ABC employee who asked not to be named.

“Imagine trying to find a farmers market out there.”

The employee explained that the sentiment is echoed around the office, with plenty of tertiary educated Gen X joggers and jeans wearers quite irate with the proposal.

“We are clued in with the real world anyway, I had a nice glass of Merlot and attended a Tigers game at Leichhardt Oval earlier this year,” he said.

“I’m not sure what these attacks about detachment are.”
