Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has confirmed the state government would fulfil its “middleman” role in any federal loan to suburban video store outlets, in a hope to get the previously thought to be extinct-industry up and running again.
The conservative Labor politician has today said they are using the same approach to save the video rental industry as they have been for coal-mining.
“This is essentially between Canberra, Blockbuster and Adani.
“Although I am happy to play the middleman if it means I can announce a short-lived sugarhit of unskilled labouring jobs that might just get me through the next election” she said.
The Commonwealth had sought clarification from the state after Deputy Premier Jackie Trad declared on the weekend that possible funding from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) to Adani was a matter for Canberra and Adani and Blockbuster
