The denizens of our state’s south east corner have been plunged into darkness this evening after an unreliable coal power plant caught on fire.
Crews are on the scene and the plant’s operators have indicated that nobody was hurt.
The question now turns to why Queensland is effectively being held ransom by the government who insists on using coal to generate power for the state.
People from the Sunshine Coast to the Tweed say State Energy Minister Mick de Brenni has a lot to answer for as this is just the latest in a string of incidents involving coal power in recent years.
“We need something more reliable than coal,” said one Brisbane man.
“It’s ridiculous. We need power plants that don’t catch on fire all the time because they’re a thousand years old. Queenslanders deserved cheap and reliable energy and coal just isn’t up to the job,”
“And I couldn’t give two fucks if the solution is worse for the environment. But maybe if our power plants keep catching on fire, then maybe we should look at other ways of making power that doesn’t involve burning shit. Just a thought.”
The Advocate reached out to the Queensland Premier’s Office for comment but have yet to receive a reply.
