Strap in rugby league fans, it’s set to be another late one tonight.
Organisers of State of Origin have begrudgingly revealed today that the game will in fact kick off at 8:45 pm Sydney time.
This comes after decades of 7:50-8:10 pm scheduled kickoffs that almost always are barely past the 3rd last hype up video by then.
“Fine, I’ll tell you the plan, we are kicking off at 8:45 tonight,” said Peter V’Landys to The Advocate this afternoon.
“I’ve heard that plenty of people would like us to just start on time, so I’m making it happen.”
“By changing the scheduled time.”
“If I’d been at home to see how late it drags on I would have made the call and changed it ages ago like I did with the whole 6 again thing.”
That news is set to come as somewhat of a relief for the nation’s children and over 30s who have a habit of dozing off on the couch.
“At least now we know and can mentally prepare for a late one,” said one local Maroons fan whose entire family asleep at half time last week before he woke them up for the last few minutes.
“I don’t know why they can’t just start around 7:50 local time, but I guess they’ve gotta serve as many ads as they physically can.”
