Sitting outside what many in Sydney consider to be the best example of a pub in the whole of New South Wales, local man Nicolas Adamos sighed and kicked the dirt beneath his feet.

The Ettamogah Pub, in Sydney’s leafy and exclusive enclave of Kellyville Ridge, has been shut for months and that’s all but broken the 75-year-old’s resolve to carry on.

“Look at it, it’s beautiful,” he told our reporter via telephone.

“But she is still closed. But from where I’m standing, I can see cafes and restaurants getting ready to reopen on the weekend. There is a hive of activity,”

“But this pub, my Ettamogah Pub, she will be closed for many more months. I thought the government was committed to kickstarting the economy? Instead, these pubs are going out of business!”

However, The Advocate was able to speak briefly to a representative from the NSW State Government, who said re-opening pubs will be the very, very last thing they’ll do.

“Reopening the pubs in NSW is very low on the totem pole right now,” they said.

“Just think about it. How dirty are pubs? Have you ever looked at your schooner glass and shrugged off how filthy it was? Well, now you understand where we are coming from,”

“Plus, they’re extremely anti-social. There’s something about Sydney that turns people nuts when they drink. And I know what you’re going to say next. We, as a government, don’t care about pubs in regional areas. As far as we’re concerned, NSW ends at the Great Dividing Range.”

More to come.
