The good shepherd of rugby league has won the sport’s highest honour tonight, becoming both the oldest and first non-player to do so.
Peter V’Landys was awarded 387 points throughout the season and won the “Player’s Player” award by the largest margin in the history of the award.
In second place was Penrith’s Nathan Cleary, who scored 34 points.
As he accepted the award at Fox Sports HQ in Sydney’s hellish Artarmon district, V’Landys thanked those who voted for him throughout the season and his family.
“This is good but undeserved,” he said.
“Ok. Thank you.”
More to come.
