A local saxophone tutor is making headlines for his nostalgia for a bygone era when he was the unsung hero behind the steamy saxophone riffs that graced countless 1980s movies sex scenes.
Reggie Yates (68), now a humble music teacher, has taken to sharing the golden memories of his past with his teenage students.
“It was a great time to be a saxaphonist” Reggie recalled.
“Everyone wanted a piece of us.”
“You couldn’t have a sex scene without a saxophone riff back then.”
Reggie looks at this time as the peak of his career, sadly though, the 90s would bring about the slow decline of the saxophone in movie soundtracks.
“It was really rough throughout the 90’s”
“Things went from bad to worse in the 2000s. So many talented musicians were out of work for years”
“Luckily I was able to get a teaching gig” Reggie admitted.
Meanwhile, Reggie’s students have mixed reactions to his tales of yesteryear.
“I like that he’s passionate about the sax” said 16-year-old Caitlyn (17), one of Reggie’s students.
“But it’s a little strange when he lists every single love making scene from 1980’s movies he performed on”
Some, and mainly just older parents of his students, find inspiration in Reggie’s stories.
“Some of those scenes mean a lot to me, it’s absolutely
amazing to meet the man behind the magic.”
“What an honour” exclaimed Steven Harper (55), Caitlyns dad.
Reggie’s tales of the glory days serve as a reminder of an era when music and sensuality were inextricably linked by the haunting yet soothing sound of a well-played saxophone.
