In what is the biggest cultural development for Central-Western Sydney since the introduction of Lonsdale tracksuits, the rise of the Acai bowl might have been exactly what its beloved Canterbury Bulldogs were looking for this whole time.

Sometimes known as ‘The Area’, the hard to define, nebulas region of Sydney has long self-identified itself as more cultured than the Greater Western Suburbs, but at the same time, not the type of ‘cultured’ that their neighbors in the Inner West identify as.

Recently, The Area, which has long been the gym capital of the nation, has paired their love for the gym with a less than likely candidate.

Acai bowls have long been associated with coastal health freaks that enjoy frequent trips to those trendy Indonesian Islands that aren’t Bali and holding job titles that not even they can define. The post pandemic acai bowl renaissance in the streets of Western Sydney have mainly been met with shock and intrigue.

No one else is feeling the health benefits of the superfood more than the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

After years struggling at the bottom of the ladder, the Bulldogs have found themselves on the cusp of 4th place midway through the season. The reason? Acai bowls.

Many are saying that the Area’s love for the gym and health supplements make Acai the perfect food craze for the region.

Others have been quick to mention that the entrepreneurial spirit of the Area mixed with small businesses using tiktok to advertise their product has created the perfect storm for the craze.

A spokesperson for the Bulldogs has welcomed the new health food explosion.

“Mate this is great, we have hundreds of new Acai bowl places popping everywhere. Even if the players don’t like it, it’s all they can find , there literally isn’t anything else shops are selling these days.”

“I wish we would have known how much this food would have improved our performance… We’ve wasted so much time”
