A grandmotherly coworker at the front desk has today hinted to the fact that she’s at that age where these kind of heatwaves can really knock her around.

This comes as a handful of Australian centres have have broken their highest ever January temperature records, including Broken Hill, which reached 45.4C and Albury which reached 44.4C.

While this has proven to be a real convenience for the visiting tennis stars, it’s the nation’s elderly citizens that are shitting themselves, sometimes even literally.

“It’s not over yet” says Berryl (77), with a look of grave concern in her eyes as she thinks back to 2009 when the air conditioning broke during a February heatwave and one of the other old girls in reception had to have a lie down.

“They reckon it’s going to be even hotter tomorrow”

Her look of sheer fear is lost on everyone in the office except for the people who are kind of close in age to her.

But elderly citizens aren’t the only one’s feeling the wrath of nature’s fury, extreme heat in South Australia is leading to heavy losses for stone fruit growers, with their produce burning from the inside out.

Some people in Tasmania are even claiming it’s hot.

MORE TO COME.
