The NSW government has fulfilled another promise made to Western Sydney as the iconic Vivid festival extends beyond the Sydney CBD and into the west as brake lights glow on the M4, dazzling the thousands of drivers trying to get home.
Now in its tenth year, Vivid Sydney celebrates the technology and arts of the harbour city with innovative and awe-inspiring installations designed to astonish the flocking crowds and most importantly, to not disturb the neighbours.
In a festival first, a stunning lights display has been rolled out into the heart of Western Sydney as weeknight commutes will now feature bumper to bumper brake lights glowing up and down the M4 from Ashfield to Penrith.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, says this is one of the tens of improvements the NSW Liberal government has made in Western Sydney.
“People in the West appreciate the arts too I think,” stated the NSW Premier.
“And the great thing is it will cost them absolutely nothing! Except for the cost of the new M4 toll that my government introduced for a road that had already been paid for. Apart from that it’s free!”
Plans to expand the motorway light show in 2019 are rumoured to include new housing developments closer to the side of the motorway, where drivers will be able to see into people’s living rooms and catch glimpses of the TV shows they are watching.
“Imagine if they had Goggle Box on? You’d be watching families watching a TV show about families watching a TV show!”
