Speaking to The Advocate this morning, the nation’s young female legal industry employees have moved to confirm that it is indeed, completely fucked.
This follows damning allegations printed last night, that former High Court Judge Dyson Heydon is responsible for numerous cases of sexual harassment and appaling behaviour.
Heydon denies the allegations.
While the individual stories involving sexual harassment of junior staff and other legal employees have revealed that alleged awful behaviour, women in the legal fraternity have been quick to assure everyone that this ‘isn’t a one off case.’
“Ahhhhh yeah, sexual harassment and assault, bullying, sexism, and general misogyny is completely rife in the industry,” explained a spokesperson from the Young Women in Law Society today.
“This Dyson Heydon stuff is certainly not unique behaviour that completely blows me away,” explained the spokesperson regarding the revelation of ‘the worst kept secret in the industry.’
“Ask any of us who’ve been alone late in the office, attended any official functions, non-official functions, casual drinks, or extra-curricular activities,” she said.
“This is just an example of the ‘Boys Club Culture’ that is perverse in many areas of the legal sector, which allows men in positions of power to abuse and take advantage of younger female employees.”
“To put it in ‘layman’s terms,'” she laughed.
“Yes, there’s a bunch of dirty old perverts in the industry who have their behavior glossed over because they are rich old white men who give off the impression they know how to behave and go after anyone who tries to change that.”
“Hopefully it starts getting called out more regularly now,” she sighed.
“I guess we’ll see at drinks on Friday.”
