Prominent Indigenous singer-songwriter Archie Roach is now officially one of two black men in the world named Archie. A name usually reserved for Aryan children born post-2010 to inner-city creatives.
This comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reveal the name of their newborn son — Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Prince Harry and Markle say that they realised that their son would already be somewhat of an outsider in pre-school, as arguably the first black Prince in the history of the royal family – so they decided to combat this by giving him the same name as 90% of all boys born in the Western Hemisphere after 2010.
The announcement was made on Instagram accompanied by a photo of the newest member of the Royal family meeting with the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Meghan Markle’s mother Doria Ragland.
While the newest member of the royal family is believed to be the first black male in the history of the British Empire named Archie – he is not the first in the world.
Buckhingham Palace addressed this in an instagram post earlier this morning.
“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle,” the post reads.
“While he does wear the crown of Prince Harry’s first son, we believe he was beaten to crown of the first black Archie in the world”
“Prince Harry and the Duchess would like to acknowledge their fondness of the music by the Australian folk-roots-rock icon, Archie Roach. He played a big part in the decision”
A spokesperson for Archie Roach, rapper Briggs, says they could have gone whiter than Archie.
“How about Angus? Or Hugo?” he said.
“Brendan?”
