Today is International Men’s Day, and this year it is celebrating a very special theme.
The theme for the 2019 edition is “The Judge Always Favours The Missus,” and looks to raise awareness regarding the prolonged and sustained campaign by the nation’s magistrates to run down the country’s recently divorced fathers.
Celebrated on November 19 every year International Men’s Day celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities, and looks to raise awareness about important issues facing the male gender.
This year, the day is highlighting the prejudice of the judicial system, which particularly in regional areas ‘always takes the missus’ side.’
The theme narrowly pipped some other strong suggestions like, ‘Men Can Be Victims Of Domestic Violence Too,’ ‘Not All Men Commit Sex Crimes’ and ‘If A Bloke Said That He’d Be Crucified.’
The Advocate spoke to the organiser of the day about its importance in shaping the conversation around the country.
“It’s great for us to be able to bring the conversation to the national attention,” said organiser Kane Williams.
“I mean how often do you hear stories about the missus and her new fucking deadbeat junkie boyfriend getting custody of the kids, and the court imposing bullshit rules on the father of those kids.”
“So we hope this year’s theme really makes people think about what’s going on in this country and helps change the tone.”
